I had tickets for Trans-Siberian Orchestra this past weekend. So after much thanksgiving, it was time to kick Christmas off right with a little rock and roll.

These guys have never disappointed. I had such a hard time getting into the xmas spirit last season, and I guess missing my annual dose of TSO was why. This year, I caught them at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO. Great seats. Not on the floor, as to avoid the shuffles and “up and down” of other floor sitters, and not in the nose bleed, as to avoid the “helicopter view syndrome.” 2008 TSO brings with it the full force of some massive lights. More than once I had to look down at my shoes, or the middle aged folks to my diagonal left swapping spit, to avoid some serious rock-induced blindness.

Highlights this year (imho) were:
- The 3 guitarists being lowered from the support ceiling on little platforms [makes me think they sit around in the heat of the summer and think of even cooler ways to make an entrance during the coming shows.]
- “Kashmir” making an encore appearance in this year’s show. Great song.
- Have I mentioned big lights yet?
- The floating rear platform (see photo)
Good show, great tunes. One can’t help but think… “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.”
